Types of Arthritis

There are more than 100 different types of arthritis. Some of the most common types include:-

  1. Osteoarthritis – It is most common type of arthritis (a condition that affects your joints) Usually, the ends of bones in your joints are capped in a layer of tough, smooth cartilage. If you have osteoarthritis, the cartilage in your affected joints wears away over time. Eventually, your bones rub against each other when you move your joints.
  2. Rheumatoid Arthritis – Arthritis that happens when your immune system mistakenly damages your joints. It most commonly affects the joints in your fingers, hands, wrists, knees, ankles, feet and toes. Rheumatoid arthritis usually occurs in the same joints on both sides of your body, which makes it different from some other types of arthritis.
  3. Gout – A painful form of Arthritis that causes sharp uric acid crystals to form in your joints. Flare-up of symptoms like pain & swelling come and go in periods called gout attacks.
  4. Ankylosing Spondylitis – Arthritis that affects joints near your lower back. Overtime, it can cause some of the bones in the spine called vertebrae, to fuse. This fusing makes the spine less flexible and can result in a hunched posture.
