Definition of arrhythmia
An abnormal heart rhythm, means the heart is beating too fast(tachycardia), too slow(Bradycardia), or irregularly.
IS ARRHYTHMIA DANGEROUS?
While some arrhythmia’s are harmless , other can increase the risk of stroke, heart failure, or even cardiac arrest. Phasic alteration of the heart rate during respiration (the sinus rate increases during inspiration and slows during expiration) is a Consequence of normal parasympathetic nervous system activity and can be Pronounced in children. Absence of this normal valuation in heart rate with Breathing or with changes in posture may be a feature of autonomic neuropathy.
AYURVEDIC VIEW OF ABNORMAL HEART RHYTHMS
- When vata dosha is imbalanced , it causes irregular heart beats.
- When pitta dosha is aggravated it causes increased heart beats.
- When kapha dosha is aggravated it causes decreased heart beats.
So ,imbalance of tridosha’s lead to abnormal heart rhythm. When there is vitiation of doshas , the (ama)is accumulated in body leading to further complications.
Types of abnormal heart rhythms
The normal heart beat is 60-100 times per minutes
- Tachycardia -When heart beat is faster than 100 beats a minute.
- Atrial fibrillation-Heart beat gets increased up-to 100-200 beats a minute.It is most common.
- Bradycardia-When heart beat is less than 60 beats a minute.
- Ventricular fibrillation-It is the type of irregular rhythm which can stop the beating of heart and may results in cardiac arrest.
Causes Of Abnormal Heart Rhythms
- Current heart attack or scarring from a previous heart attack.
- Blocked arteries in the heart(CAD)
- Changes to the heart’s structure, such as from cardiomyopathy.
- Diabetes.
- High blood pressure.
- Infection with COVID-19.
- Overactive or under active thyroid gland.
- Sleep apnea.
- Certain medicines, including colds and allergy drugs bought without a prescription
- Drinking too much alcohol or caffeine.
