Allergic Bronchitis

About Allergic Bronchitis

The normal airway passage refers to the pathway that air takes as it moves into and out of the lungs. It begins with the nasal cavity and mouth, then travels through the phyranyx, larynx, trachae, bronchi and bronchi-oles, ultimately reaching the alveoli where gas exchange occurs. The inflammation of the bronchi is called ‘bronchitis’ and if it is due to some allergic reaction to certain allergens like pollen, dust mites, or pet dander, it is called “Allergic bronchitis”.

Causes of Allergic Bronchitis

  • Allergens – Allergic bronchitis is triggered by allergens, substances that cause an allergic reaction in the body
  • Common Allergens – Pollen, dust mites, pet dander and mold are common allergens that can trigger allergic bronchitis.
  • Irritants-exposure to irritants like smoke, air pollution and chemical can also worsen symptoms.

Types of Bronchitis

  • Acute Bronchitis – Acute bronchitis is caused by a virus or bacteria. It usually goes away after a few days or weeks
  • Chronic bronchitis – Allergic bronchitis is chronic and may be caused by exposure to allergy triggers like tobacco smoke, pollution or dust. It can last for months or longer.
