Introduction

Depression is a mental health conditions that causes a persistent feeling of sadness, low mood and aversion to activity. People with depression may experience feelings of dejection or lack of hope difficulty in thinking and concentration, hypersomnia , or insomnia,overeating or anorexia, or suicidal thoughts.

Causes of Depression

  • Stressful condition-Difficult experiences, such as the death of a loved one, trauma, divorce, isolation and lack of support, can trigger depression.
  • Brain chemistry-An imbalance of neurotransmitters, including serotonin and dopamine,contributes to the development of depression.
  • Genetics-If you have a first-degree relative with depression, you’re about three times as likely to develop the condition as the general population.
  • Certain Medical conditions-Like Chronic pain and chronic conditions like diabetes can lead to depression.
  • Medication- Some medications can cause depression as a side effect.

Symptoms

  • Low energy.
  • Feeling very sad or hopeless.
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide.
  • Irritability
  • Changes in eating behavior.
  • Sleep changes.
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions.
  • Experiencing physical issues like headache, stomachache or sexual dysfunction.
  • Loss of interest in hobbies and activities.

  • Regular exercise.
  • Good quality sleep.
  • Eating a healthy diet.
  • Avoiding alcohol, which is a depressant.
  • Spending time with people you care about.

Ayurvedic View of Depression

Majorly ,according to ayurveda, depression is a result of Kapha imbalance. Plus, changes in the brains electrochemistry can encourage a Vata shift, which may also trigger a loss of enzymatic activity in the metabolism (also known as a shift in pitta).In these three doshas , kapha imbalance can lead to heaviness, darkness, anxiety and stress, often leading to hopelessness and sadness.

  • Brahmi capsule-2 capsule twice a day with lukewarm water.
  • Brain care-2-2 capsule twice a day before meal in morning and evening.
  • Saraswatarishta-10-20 ml of Saraswatarishta ,mixed with equal amount of water twice a day or as directed by the physician.
  • Nasal drop-3-4 drops in one nostril once or twice a day.
  • Mucuna powerdopa- 1 scoop of powder with milk before meal in morning.
  • Detox powder-1 scoop of powder with plain water after meal at night.

1.Brahmi Capsule

The active compounds in brahmi called bacosides, may help mitigate symptoms of anxiety and depression by regulating key neurotransmitter in the brain such as serotonin, dopamine and GABA, which are involved in mood stability and emotional well being. By calming the nervous system,Brahmi can help reduce the restlessness and worry associated with anxiety and improve sleep quality as well.

2. Brain Care

The key ingredients like Brahmi and shankhpushpi are traditionally used to improve memory retention, mental clarity and focus. It also contains adaptogenic herbs such as Ashwagandha and Jatamansi, that help balance stress hormone levels (cortisol), calm the nervous system and provide emotional stability.

3.Saraswatarishta

6.Detox Powder

It strengthens the immune system and enhances the overall resistance to illness. It also balances tridoshas (Vata, pitta,and kapha) by its detoxifying nature.

Diagnosis

Depression based on the:-

  • Thorough understanding of your symptoms, medical history and mental health history.
  • To receive a diagnosis of depression, you must have five depression symptoms every day, nearly all day, for at least two weeks.
  • Blood tests can be done to see if any underlying medical conditions are causing your depressive symptoms.
